Academic Stream: What are our Pagan Scholars up to? / Volet Académique: Que font nos chercheurs païens? (Rosemary Roberts)
This session includes presentation, in English and French, from four of our local Pagan scholars on a variety of issues dealing with contemporary Paganism in Montreal. A question and answer period will follow the presentations.

Cette session comprendra quatre communications par des chercheurs païens locaux, en anglais et en français, sur une variété de sujets liés au paganisme contemporain à Montréal. Une période de questions suivra les présentations.

Voice of Youth in the Pagan Community (The Young Pagan’s Circle)
The Young Pagan’s would like to present to the community their views on the place of young people in the Pagan community as well as discuss how young people from non-Pagan or Pagan families find the community, integrate into it and their experience as minors. After the presentation they will take questions from the conference participants.

Teachers, Mentors and Clergy Roundtable / Partage de connaissance pour les enseignants, mentorats et le clergé (Amanda Strong)
From traditional coven structures to non-hierarchical open study groups, there are many ways to facilitate learning in neo-pagan traditions. Despite this, many of us who engage in this work face similar challenges and joys. Whether you are already sharing your wisdom, or simply find yourself moving in that direction, we invite you to share your knowledge and bring your questions.

Des structures des covens traditionnels aux groupes d'étude qui ne sont pas hiérarchiques, il existe plusieurs façons qui permettent l'enseignement et l'apprentissage au sein des traditions païennes. Malgré tout, plusieurs de ceux qui se sont engagés dans cette voie font face aux mêmes défis et aux mêmes joies. Que vous partagiez déjà vos connaissances ou que vous empruntiez cette voie, nous vous invitons à venir échanger avec d'autres comme vous et posez vos questions.

Au-delà de la base de la Wicca : De la théorie à la pratique (Phoenixia)
J’ai fini de lire le livre La Wicca : Magie Blanche et art de vivre. J’ai suivi plusieurs ateliers. Maintenant, qu’est que je fais avec toutes mes connaissances ? Plusieurs d’entre nous se demandent comment établir une pratique après avoir étudié la base. Mais la vrai question est : comment puis-je avancer dans mon cheminement en français ?

Anglophone/Francophone Open Dialogue / Dialogue ouvert au sujet des anglophones/francophones (Phoenixia and Rosanne)
Do Francophone and Anglophone contemporary pagans walk their spiritual paths in the same way? What are the differences, the similarities, and how can we understand each other better? These are some of the questions that we will try to answer together.

Les néo-païens francophones et anglophones vivent ils leur cheminement dans la paganisme de la même façon ? Qu’est-ce qui nous différencie et comment pouvons nous rapprocher ? Ce sont des questions que nous tenterons de répondre ensemble.

Song as a Ritual tool. / La chanson comme outil de rituel (Josie Baker and Rosemary Roberts)
In this workshop we will have the opportunity to share songs, as well as to explore the ways in which song can be used in a ritual context. Come ready to share your voice and your experiences.

The 2007 Montreal Pagan Community Conference is looking for Pagan Artists who would like to show their work at the conference.

We are not sure at this point how much space we'll have, so if you are interested please send us an email as soon as possible, with some information about what type of art you would like to show, how many pieces, and roughly how much space you'll need. When we know how much room there will be, we will decide how many pieces to accept.

Façonner une compréhension au sein de la communauté païenne variée de Montréal

Montréal est un chaudron de diversité – religieuse, culturelle et linguistique. Notre communauté païenne locale et contemporaine n’en diffère pas. Nous avons une variété de voies et traditions païennes qui sont pratiquées au sein de différents contextes culturels et linguistiques.

Cette année, l’objectif de la conférence est de célébrer cette diversité et de faciliter la communication entre les multiples facettes de notre communauté locale. Nous proposons, entre autre, une discussion sur l’interaction de plusieurs voies où des représentants échangeront sur les racines et pratiques de leur propre tradition, ainsi qu’une discussion de type table-ronde qui cherchera à trouver une façon de réduire la scission linguistique entre les communautés païennes anglophones et francophones. Il y aura également un volet académique pour les académiciens païens de la région.

En plus de vous inviter à venir assister à la conférence, nous aimerions vous inviter à contribuer à sa vision. À cette fin, nous accueillons des propositions d’ateliers et de discussions de groupe. Si vous avez une idée de ce que vous aimeriez voir à la conférence, faites-le nous savoir.

Les propositions doivent être centrées autour du thème de la conférence, Du langage à la liturgie, à un niveau ou un autre, abordant les problèmes de notre communauté locale, ou peuvent être une opportunité de partager des compétences ou encore l’occasion de participer à l’épanouissement de notre communauté locale. Les ateliers et discussions doivent être d’une durée maximale de 60 minutes. La date limite pour proposer un atelier ou une discussion de groupe est le 18 octobre.

Le café matinal, le dîner (lunch) et des collations en après-midi seront fournis. Une rencontre amicale (« pub moot ») aura lieu après la conférence.

From Language to Liturgy
Crafting understanding in Montreal's diverse Pagan community.

Montreal is a cauldron of diversity--religious, cultural and linguistic. Our local contemporary Pagan community is no different. We have a diversity of pagan traditions and paths practicing in different cultural contexts and languages.

This year, the aim of the conference is to celebrate this diversity and to facilitate communication between the many different facets of our local community. The event will include an inter-path panel with representatives talking about the roots and practices of their own traditions, as well as a roundtable discussion focussing on ways to reduce the linguistic divide between our francophone and anglophone pagan communities. There will also be an academic panel of local Pagan scholars.

As well as inviting you to attend the conference, we'd like to invite you to contribute to its vision. To this end, we're we welcoming proposals for workshops and facilitated discussions. If you have an idea about what you'd like to see at the conference, tell us about it. Proposals should fit within the conference theme, From Language to Liturgy, on some level, while addressing the issues of the local community, or be an opportunity for skill sharing and building within the local community. They should also be based on a 60-minute time slot.

Deadline for submitting proposals for workshops and facilitated discussions is October 18th.

Morning coffee , lunch, and afternoon snacks will be provided. A pub moot will follow the conference.

Planning for 4th Montreal Pagan Conference Underway

Just a quick note to let you all know that a planning committee has come together from to put on the fourth Montreal Pagan Community Conference. The conference is being planned for a Saturday sometime between November 2007 and March 2008, and the planning committe comes from a varied cross-section of the Montreal Pagan community, both anglophone and francophone.

The conference will follow a similar format to the last one, held in 2005, with workshops and a panel discussion. Morning coffee, lunch, and afternoon snacks will be provided. New this year though: a pub moot will follow the conference.

We are currently looking for a venue to hold the conference, so if you have a great lead on an inexpensive venue that has kitchen-space and can accomodate two streams of workshops, please let us know. Also, if you'd like to get involved, or have a workshop suggestion, please let us know.

La planification de la quatrième Conférence païenne de Montréal est en cours

Nous désirons vous informer qu’un comité de planification s’est formé pour mettre en branle la quatrième Conférence de la communauté païenne de Montréal. Nous prévoyons tenir cette conférence un samedi, quelque part entre novembre 2007 et mars 2008. Le comité de planification provient de différents secteurs de la communauté païenne de Montréal, à la fois anglophones et francophones.

La conférence suivra le format de la précédente conférence, tenue en 2005, avec des ateliers et un débat. Du café matinal, un dîner et des collations en après-midi seront servies. Nouveauté pour cette année : un « pub moot » suivra la conférence.

Nous sommes présentement à la recherche d’une salle où tenir la conférence. Si vous avez un contact pour une salle non dispendieuse avec un espace cuisine et qui peut accueillir deux groupes d’ateliers, faites-le nous savoir!

De plus, si vous aimeriez vous impliquez ou si vous auriez une suggestion pour un atelier, n’hésitez pas à nous contacter.

Biographies

Amanda

Amanda follows an ecstatic path that celebrates life and explores Mystery. She has been involved in various facets of the Montreal Pagan community for several years, including facilitating discussion and study groups, offering workshops, helping create public ritual and events, and coordinating WynterGreene, a Canadian Pagan magazine based out of Montreal. She was also peripherally involved in the last three conferences.

Aurora Rising

Aurora Rising began exploring wicca and paganism over eleven years ago. Since then, she has continued on to become a 3rd level graduate of the Crescent Moon Spiritual Learning Center, as well as one of the founders of Gealach Dorcha, a women's mystery circle. Currently, Aurora is a first-degree Priestess studying with the Northern Cougars of the Black Forest Circle and Seminary.

Freya Kä

Freya Kä stands before the World Tree Yggdrasil and seeks to explore all of its worlds, mainly through Asatru and shamanism. She has been involved in the Montreal pagan community for a few years, offering workshops, giving runic divination sessions, co-founding a coven and a virtual community, and other various activities and services.

Isis Shakti

Isis Shakti follows the Path of the Goddess and is an eternal student in life, spirituality, mysticism and esoteric teachings. She is an ordained Priestess from the Fellowship of Isis and she is of Indo-Pagan faith (hinduism and neo-paganism). She is the co-founder of a Montreal coven, of a virtual community and of the Iseum of the Lotus Goddess. She is very dedicated to the pagan community (counseling, workshops, research) and she has many interests like reiki, mantras, meditation, chamanism, mythology and magic.

Josie

Josie made Montreal her home a little over one year ago and has been busy organizing open circles, public ritual, and workshops in that time. Prior to this, she was deeply involved in the Maritime Pagan community, and has a great deal of experience organizing public/open ritual. She identifies most strongly with the Reclaiming tradition of witchcraft due to its emphasis on participatory ritual, connection to nature, and political awareness.
